Text (SMS) notifications

What Verbalgerbil sends by text, exactly how someone opts in, and how to stop.

This page is a supplement to our Privacy Policy, which is the single authoritative privacy policy for Verbalgerbil and for our messaging program. It adds detail about the opt-in flow; it does not replace or modify that policy. Where messaging is concerned, everything here restates what the Privacy Policy says, in the section Mobile information and text messaging.

Verbalgerbil (myperfectcadence.com) is scheduling and lesson software for independent coaches and their students. Verbalgerbil was previously called Cadence — same operator, same service, same messaging program. Our messaging registration, our website address and the texts themselves still carry the former name while that changeover is completed, so a message that begins "Cadence" is from us. The only text messages we send are about a student's own lessons with their own coach:

  • Lesson reminders — e.g. a reminder that tomorrow's 4:00 PM lesson is coming up.
  • A notice that their prepaid package is running out — they are down to their last lesson, or have used them all.
  • A notice that an invoice from their coach is past due.

That is the whole list — three messages. Verbalgerbil sends no marketing or promotional texts of any kind: no offers, no newsletters, and no "we miss you — come back and book" win-back texts. If a student stops taking lessons, we stop texting them.

The second and third are service messages about the current state of a student's own account — lessons they have already bought, or an invoice they already owe. They tell a student where they stand. They are not offers, advertisements, or solicitations.

How a student gets an account

Students can't sign themselves up out of nowhere — every student account starts with a personal invitation link sent by their coach. The link has the form https://myperfectcadence.com/invite/<personal-code> and opens a public page (no login needed) where the student creates their account. What that invitation page looks like is described in our public guide, Using your student portal.

How SMS opt-in works — step by step

Text notifications are off for every new account. Nothing is pre-checked, and adding a phone number alone does not turn texts on. A student who wants reminders by text:

  1. Signs in to their portal and opens Account (myperfectcadence.com/portal/account).
  2. Adds their own mobile number in the profile section.
  3. In Reminders & messages, ticks the consent box — which is empty until they tick it themselves. The consent language printed at that box reads: "Yes, text me lesson reminders and account notices about my own lessons — a prepaid package running out, or an invoice past due — from Cadence at the number above. Message frequency varies with my lesson schedule. Message & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to any text to stop, HELP for help. Consent is not required to buy lessons."
  4. Only then do "Text (SMS)" and "Both" become available as a notification preference. Until the box is ticked they cannot be selected at all, and the preference stays on Email.

The preference is per coach relationship and can be changed back to Email or In-app only at any time on the same screen. Unticking the box withdraws consent and turns the texts off. Consent is never a condition of buying lessons or using Verbalgerbil.

The opt-in control itself is published at myperfectcadence.com/sms/opt-in — that page renders the live control, so what it shows is always what a student sees.

Message frequency and rates

Frequency varies and depends entirely on the student's own lesson schedule: one reminder per lesson they have booked, so a student taking one lesson a week receives about four messages a month and a student taking two a week about eight. Added to that, rarely, is an account notice when their prepaid package runs out or an invoice goes past due. A student with no booked lessons receives no texts at all. Message and data rates may apply according to the recipient's own carrier plan; Verbalgerbil does not charge for text notifications.

How to stop

Reply STOP to any text from us to opt out immediately, or HELP for help. A student can also switch their preference back to Email or In-app only at myperfectcadence.com/portal/account at any time.

Privacy

Mobile numbers are collected only for these notifications and are never sold, rented, or shared for marketing. Delivery is handled by our SMS provider (Twilio), acting solely as our subcontractor for message delivery.

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Information sharing to subcontractors in support services, such as customer service or message delivery, is permitted. All other use case categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.

Our single authoritative privacy policy is at myperfectcadence.com/privacy — see the section Mobile information and text messaging, which states our mobile information, message frequency, and message-and-data-rates disclosures in full. This page supplements that policy and does not conflict with it. See also our Terms of Service.
